Donald Trump will not attend the Super Bowl on February 8 because the game, which will be played at Levi's Stadium in northern California, is "just too far away," he said in a New York Post interview.   Trump said he was displeased the NFL championship game would feature halftime entertainment by Bad Bunny and a pregame performance by Green Day. Despite his criticism, he said the musicians' presence at the game has nothing to do with his decision to stay away https://reut.rs/4pWmbpK

The Justice Department opened a criminal investigation of Minnesota officials, including Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, over an alleged conspiracy to impede immigration agents, a source familiar with the probe said on Friday.   The investigation, first reported by CBS News, stems from statements made by Walz and Frey about the thousands of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and Border Patrol agents deployed to the Minneapolis region in recent weeks under orders from President Donald Trump, the source said.   It would be highly unusual for federal prosecutors to bring a criminal conspiracy case based on statements from public officials about government policies https://bit.ly/45dgNau

Donald Trump said he has ordered the Department of Homeland Security to ‘under no circumstances’ get involved with protests in Democratic-led cities unless they ask for federal help or federal property is threatened.   The announcement follows weeks of unrest and protests sparked by a large deployment of Border Patrol and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to Minnesota, and the killings of two American citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, by federal agents who said they were reacting to threats reut.rs/4ttjNtR

A man shot by federal agents in Minneapolis on Saturday has died, local and federal officials said, the second fatal shooting involving federal agents in the city this month.   The man, who has not been identified, was armed with a handgun and two magazines, the Department of Homeland Security said.   A video circulating on social media and aired on cable news stations showed people wearing masks and tactical vests wrestling with a man on a snow-covered street before shots are heard. In the video, the man falls to the ground, and several more shots are heard reut.rs/3Z0sSMz

A Minnesota federal judge declined to order a halt to President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement crackdown in Minneapolis, in a lawsuit by state officials accusing federal agents of widespread civil rights abuses.   US District Judge Kate Menendez said the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office made a strong showing that immigration agents' tactics, including shootings and evidence of racial profiling, were having ‘profound and even heartbreaking consequences on the State of Minnesota, the Twin Cities, and Minnesotans’ reut.rs/3LVlJKB

Reuters has spoken to six Americans who voted for Trump in 2024 — part of a group of 20 whom Reuters has interviewed monthly since February — to better understand how they assess the shooting on Renee Nicole Good, an incident caught on video that has been viewed by millions. Each of these half-dozen voters, who vary in their assessments of Trump's immigration policy and overall performance, came away from the video with the same conclusion: The agent feared for his life and his decision to shoot Good was justifiable https://reut.rs/4aWw5nF

European ‘weakness’ necessitates US control of Greenland for global stability, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said even as some lawmakers sounded alarms about the Trump administration's effort to acquire the Arctic territory held by Denmark.   Bessent said taking ownership of Greenland is crucial in a geopolitical chess match with Russia and China. He made the remarks a day after Donald Trump vowed to implement tariffs on European Union members opposed to a US acquisition, including Denmark, which has long been one of Washington's staunchest allies.   ‘We are the strongest country in the world,’ Bessent said. ‘Europeans project weakness. US projects strength’ reut.rs/4qqThyZ
