This week, UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged countries to enhance the representation and effectiveness of the Security Council.
“Reform is essential,” he stressed.
He highlighted the Council’s unique authority to act on behalf of all nations on questions of peace and security.
“Its responsibility is singular. Its obligation is universal,” the Secretary-General said, stressing:
“No other body or ad-hoc coalition can legally require all countries to comply with decisions on peace and security.”
